Education Programs

RTA supports the Rivendell School District to offer programs for RISD elementary school students (grades K-6) on the CRT. Students participate in a variety of outdoor hands-on learning programs linked to their classroom curriculum. Some recent field trips on the trail include:

• A 3rd grade bridge-building project on the CRT in Vershire as part of a unit they did on the math and science of bridges

• A study of forest soils by 6th grade as part of their unit on compost and soils

• A wilderness survival trip for 5th grade designed around themes in the book Hatchet by Gary Paulson

• The design and use of a forest classroom by Kindergarten and first graders at Samuel Morey Elementary

• An All School Hike for both elementary schools on the trail from Southworth Park to Middlebrook Rd in West Fairlee
